Bill Fletcher Workshop

“Plein Air Bootcamp”
Monday, October 25 and Tuesday, October26, 2010

This workshop focuses on introducing and integrating the fundamentals most essential to successful plein air painting.  It is an intense exercise oriented two-day course utilizing a structured approach towards the block in, middle and finish.  We’ll also work with site selection and composition.   This workshop is designed for beginning to intermediate plein air painters, or even advanced plein air painters who want to reinforce their command of the fundamentals essential to successful plein air painting.

“Nuthin’ But Plein Air”
Wednesday, October 27 and Thursday October 28, 2010

As the title says, we're going to do nothing but plein painting.  This is the perfect way to practice and integrate the concepts learned in the “Plein Air Bootcamp”.  I'll do a quick demo, and then you’ll plein air paint with my guidance, and we'll repeat that cycle over and over.    We'll have group feedback and a discussion about focus points after each round of painting and at the end of each day.

Exhibiting in the Hoosier Salon Gallery

Are You Ready to Have Work in a Featured Exhibition in the Hoosier Salon Gallery?

Many artists wonder how to arrange to have a show in the Hoosier Salon Gallery in Indianapolis. (This not the same as our annual exhibition held at the Indiana State Museum.) As most of our member artists know, aside from the “art on commission” rooms, we also have featured exhibitions. Although one show a year is a theme show when members are invited to bring work to exhibit in a group show, the rest of the exhibits are for works of art by artists we’d like to highlight.

While it’s an honor to be among those in the featured exhibit area, it requires a good deal of thought. First of all, a proposal needs to be submitted. The proposal needs to include the following:

Specific contact information for the artist submitting the proposal,

An idea for a theme, “Paintings of Dancers” is not nearly as fascinating as “Drawn to Dance.” Experience tells us that people will not come to a view a show of work that lists just the name of the artists.

A list of other artists you’d like to include. We don’t do one-person shows anymore. Two to six artists work very well but we’ve booked 15 or more for a group show. If you don’t have suggestions, say so. We have a plethora of artists that we might suggest.
Tell us why it would be a good exhibit, is it something we haven’t done in a while or ever? Is it unique? Is it something the public might be curious about?
Send some images of the work you’d like to exhibit, digital images or slides are fine. Six different images are great or tell us how we can view your work.
Submit your request to: Hoosier Salon, 714 East 65th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46220.

The Hoosier Salon will send out approximately 1000 postcards, create a press release, call patron members that we KNOW are interested in your style of art and design and hang the exhibit.

Finally, you and the Hoosier Salon will sign a contract this secures the dates and both parties can prepare for the show. Remember, putting on a show is a partnership effort. The staff and board work hard for you. Don’t forget that the organization needs your active involvement as well. Tell your friends and neighbors.

We look forward to hearing from you!
